Under the Brand Equity and Business Promotion (BEBP) programme, Tata Group companies are required to ensure that they demonstrate consistent corporate leadership in order to build and enhance the Tata brand equity aligned with the group purpose of "Leadership with Trust".
Consistent corporate leadership is demonstrated through consistent business health and a never-ending quest for Business Excellence. This is measured by assessing the Company s position vis-à-vis the requirements of the Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM). A company is expected to attain and maintain a minimum standard vis-à-vis this model to demonstrate its consistency.
In order to enable successful implementation of the BEBP compliance plan, companies need to set up an implementation framework. The compliance plan comprises a set of actions derived from the TBEM assessment with clear responsibilities and time frame for completion. The framework assists in directing, planning, organising, prioritising, and monitoring the actions towards this end. An implementation framework is recommended under the executive summary section of the BEBP company s compliance plan.
The implementation framework needs to function effectively to be able to meet the BEBP standards within the stipulated time frame as given below:
To achieve 220 points in TBEM categories 1 to 6 out of a possible 550 points, within two years of signing the BEBP agreement.
To achieve 400 points out of a possible 1000 points, within three years of signing the BEBP agreement.
To achieve 500 points out of a possible 1000 points, within four years of signing the BEBP agreement.
Assurance is an employee perception survey to gauge awareness, commitment and effectiveness of implementation of Group level processes like TBEM and MBE+CSR. This process assures the CEO of a company about how well the enablers to various processes are implemented in the organization.
In 2001, the process was first introduced with only one module i.e. TBEM. All Tata companies that have adopted the TBEM approach for Business Excellence are eligible to participate in the Assurance Survey.

The Assurance Process
The Assurance Process Survey facilitated by TQMS, is conducted once every year in the last quarter of a fiscal year. The survey is based on a pre-constructed ‘Assurance Questionnaire’ that consists of the following steps:
Sampling:
TQMS uses the Stratified Random Sampling Technique to draw a sample of the kind of people who might participate in the survey. Care is taken to ensure that the selected sample is a good representation of all the horizontal and vertical cross-section of the Companies as suggested by the CQH.
Administration:
The administration process of the survey is monitored online. Group administration through handwritten method or booth administration through a computer hub is carried for those companies that are located in remote places or have limited web access. A reputed third party carries out the design, administration and analysis of the survey in consultation with TQMS.
Analysis:
The analysis, the composite scores as well as attribute scores are generated separately for TBEM, MBE and CSR.
Reporting:
Once the analysis is completed, a separate report for every participating company is generated. This gives the company elaborate information on its strengths and weaknesses on each of the three Modules. Guidance is provided to all participating companies in preparing their future plan of action.
