World Environment Day, commemorated each year on the 5th of June, is one of the principal vehicles through which one can give a human face to environment issues and promote awareness about the situation of the environment.
Apart from the regular awareness campaigns held for the benefit of the environment, on Saturday June 5th 2010, we, at the Taj Blue Diamond, Pune, organized a range of activities. In fact not only have we restricted June 5th as Environment Day but are celebrating the month of June as the Environment month and have activities organized every week.
We had organized for an Environment Study Tour – An Environmental Study Tour by an expert organized at Mulshi for the support team of Taj Blue Diamond.
Ms. Janhavi Kale was the expert who took our associates for the tour. Janhavi is a M.Sc. Biodiversity and has completed Diploma in 'Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Conservation' conducted by Ecological Society, Pune. Currently, she works with this organization on project basis.
Ecological Society has done pioneering work in the field of Ecological Restoration. The Society is also active in Environment Education and Ecological Research.
AT 8am sharp on Tuesday 22nd, we had 25 of our associates from across departments (supervisors and executives mainly) who had been nominated to go for this tour and were all geared and set with their caps and wind cheaters.
We had organized for refreshments from the hotel. Mulshi is approx an hour and a half from the Pune city.
The half a day trip educated our associates on the environment and emphasized with live examples on ecological restoration.
It was indeed a learning opportunity for all of these associates, who appreciated Janhavi taking time out for educating us on the Environment.
